This week has been a rough one - first starting with Amy Cooper's startling example of white privilege to the shockingly disturbing death of George Floyd at the hands of the police. I've had a lot of random thoughts about the Black Lives Matter movement and haven't been able to coherently get my message across - so created the image below instead to express how I feel.
As a side note - I don't consider myself an 'ally' of the Black Lives Matter movement - I'm a member. Inequality, injustice, unnecessary death isn't just a black issue - we should ALL care deeply that this is what the state of race affairs has become in America.
So what can you do to help drive change?
Vote. Vote for people that will foster and push change.
Teach. Teach your kids to be better and do better.
Be anti-racist. Don't just be not racist - be anti-racist. Call out racism when you see it amongst your family, friends, co-workers, etc. Recognize your own prejudices and actively work against them.
Educate yourself. If you're on social media, follow people that can help educate you - sometimes you don't know what you don't know. The Conscious Kid is a great place to start.
